[R] The Five Stages of Falling in Love, by: Rachel Higginson

The Five Stages of Falling in Love

★★★★★

Elizabeth Carlson is living in the pits of hell- also known as grief.

Her husband of eight years, the father of her four children and the love of her life, died from cancer. Grady's prognosis was grim, even from the start, but Liz never gave up hope he would survive. How could she, when he was everything to her?

Six months later, she is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life and get the kids to school on time. Both seem impossible. Everything seems impossible these days.

When Ben Tyler moves in next door, she is drowning in sorrow and pain, her children are acting out, and the house is falling apart. She has no time for curious new friends or unwanted help, but Ben gives her both. And he doesn't just want to help her with yard work or cleaning the gutters. Ben wants more from Liz. More than she's capable of ever giving again.

As Liz mourns her dead husband and works her way through the five stages of grief, she finds there's more of her heart to give than she thought possible. And as new love takes hold, she peels away the guilt and heartache, and discovers there's more to life than death.

my thoughts

This book should wear a warning saying something like: this book will make you weep so much that you will problably drown, it will make you laugh so hard that your stomach will hurt a lot and it will make you swoon over so many romantic parts that you'll wish to be her. That practically sums up what I have to tell you in this review.

I cannot blame you if you want to skip this book, I nearly did but I want something romantic and sweet so it was "almost" the perfect pick. The book made me cry at the end of the Prologue, which is hard for me because it means that will make me cry for the rest of the book (which it did). I was not looking to read something to make me cry, but I really wanted to read the book. I'm a weird woman. Anyway, the story begins with Grady and Liz, the perfect marriage with four kids. Grady dies and Liz is left alone with her grief and her kids. This new neighbor, Ben, is gonna help her. You can do the math and the thinking. But even though they are both "in love" with each other, Liz is stuck with her dead husband. She is still grieving and needs to take everything slow, which Ben helps her. He is basically her prince in shinning armor coming to her rescue always. So, I really like how everything turn out to be.

The book is very bittersweet, because you can actually feel the pain, but at the same time you feel like you are healing. These stages weren't, actually, of how to fall in love. These stages were the ones of people grieving, but each step she became closer to Ben and therefore to fall in love with him. I love the whole concept, plus, I really like my men like him.

If you want something teary, cheesy, sweet and funny, this is def your pick. I couldn't recommend you anything better. But remember ITS BITTERSWEET, but its turns out GOOD. *winks*
