“I’ve left some clues for you.
If you want them, turn the page.
If you don’t, put the book back on the shelf, please.”

So begins the latest whirlwind romance from the bestselling authors of Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on a favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. But is Dash that right guy? Or are Dash and Lily only destined to trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations across New York? Could their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions? Or will they be a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?

Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have written a love story that will have readers perusing bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own.

my thoughts

“Luckily, I always travel with a book, just in case I have to wait on line for Santa, or some such inconvenience.”
I LOVE Dash & Lily's Book of Dares, like really R-E-A-L-L-Y love it. Because the mere idea of doing a book of dares in a red notebook and put it in a bookstore for someone to find and keep playing with you is absolutely perfect! I know the idea wasn't from neither her nor him, but they keep the game going back and forth. I wish this was true, because I do really want to complete some dares.
“I was attempting to write the story of my life. It wasn't so much about plot. It was much more about character.”
As I said, the idea is genious and the story goes around the notebook and the people who are writting in them, Dash & Lily. You can totally say that they are both antonyms, because they are different, but I'm sure you can realize what its the #1 similarity of them, right? The notebook. But more that that, is that they are alone in Christmas, like really alone. Dash parents were divorced and somehow at this time of the year (Christmas) he didn't share the dates with none of them, just alone in the house. Lily isn't really alone, but it counts as she is. Her parents went in a late honeymoon trip to Philippines and her brother is more concerned of expending time with his new boyfriend that her. What they have this Christmas? Only each other. That is if they keep the notebook going back and forth.
“I want to believe there is a somebody out there for me. I want to believe that I exist to be there for that somebody.”
I loved how the game played. I loved how the characters made so much sense. I loved how they complement each other. I loved how on top of how alone they actually were, they look at the bright side. I loved how they rebel each other agaisnt themselves to make memories and living while laughing. I just loved the book, ok?
“The important people in our lives leave imprints. They may stay or go in the physical realm, but they are always there in your heart, because they helped form your heart. There's no getting over that.”
If you want a sweet and yet daring book to read and fall in love, this is your pick. Plus reading it on Christmas time is totally a plus, don't you think?
“I wanted to talk to someone. But who? It’s moments like this, when you need someone the most, that your world seems smallest.”
